Invest in Torbay - Creating a Landscape for Success - 25 March, House of Commons, Westminster
New drive to highlight benefits of doing business in Torbay kicked off by flagship event at House of Commons.
For the first time, Torbay partners are bringing together local ambassadors with potential investors and influencers at the House of Commons, as part of their ongoing campaign to raise awareness about business opportunities in Torbay.
The event, a Mayoral initiative - Invest in Torbay - Creating a Landscape for Success - will bring together those with passion and enthusiasm for what Torbay has to offer, including the Mayor of Torbay Gordon Oliver and MP Adrian Sanders. They will showcase the benefits of expanding or relocating to the area to national and international influencers and investors, among whom will be Danny Alexander, Chief Secretary to the Treasury.
The event is the first of its kind for the region, as Torbay campaigns to promote the area's growing sectors and attract further investment to the English Riviera; where costs are low, skills are high and quality of life is excellent.
Torbay ambassadors and those who have thrived in the area's favourable business conditions will relay their success to up to 150 attendees at the live forum on 25th March at the House of Commons, hosted by Torbay MP Adrian Sanders. The organisers hope their message will reach far and wide, capturing the attention and imagination of central government and influential business leaders.
Mayor of Torbay, Gordon Oliver said: "We are proud to be hosting the Invest in Torbay event at Westminster, to present our compelling case for industry and inward investment. This event is a chance for us to get the message across to key players in business and government that Torbay is open for business, and is improving its access to markets with the construction of a new £110m link road, and has a thriving cluster of key sectors that are ripe for growth. It is important that decision makers and those who influence them - including central government, understand what can be achieved in Torbay."
Torbay MP Adrian Sanders said: “Torbay has made a great step forward by securing Government investment in the South Devon Link Road. We are seeing more investment in broadband and the prospect of EU funding. The task is now to ensure businesses and investors come to Torbay to exploit the massive potential on offer, ensuring that we secure greater prosperity for the local area in the years ahead.”
Torbay is known amongst globally operating businesses as a centre for hi-tech and advanced electronics, and the location has other thriving sectors such as business processing, environmental science, marine industries and technology, medical research, healthcare and tourism.
Skilled workforces for specific sectors can are prevalent in Torbay; the cluster of hi tech industries nurtures a fast developing knowledge base, and the seasonal nature of the hospitality trade means there are trained, customer service oriented staff on hand during the winter months who are available for seasonal peaks in the call centre industry.
Chair of Torbay Hi Tech Forum and Divisional Managing Director of Spirent Communications, Martin Foulger said: “I am pleased to recommend Torbay as a place to invest for hi-tech industries looking to expand or relocate their operations profitably. The Torbay Hi-tech forum consists of a growing cluster of successful companies that have chosen to invest here because of the competitive advantages offered by this unique location, and we continue to strengthen our global offer through our collaborations.”
Many thriving companies have had success in Torbay because favourable business conditions mean they can operate profitably, and with the new South Devon Link Road due for completion in 2015 making access to markets even faster, there are greater opportunities for investment. Easy access to European and UK markets, a skilled and motivated workforce, cutting edge research and development; and quality, affordable business premises, all make for highly competitive offer in Torbay.
