Hele’s Angels is recruiting a part time team leader to work on a new project called “Gardens & Greens. Initially for 20 hours per week (flexible working pattern) on a 1 year fixed term contract, with the potential for a second if the project grows, at £8.50 per hour £8,840 per year (Full time equivalent £15,470).

You will be responsible for leading this new and exciting project based in the community of Hele & Lower Barton. You will be working on community garden space and “Gateway” areas that are key to the environmental aspect and aesthetic presentation of the village.

You will be responsible for the recruitment and support of volunteers who will work on the project (in collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator). A keen interest in gardening and working with local residents is essential.

Rowcroft Hospice is dedicated to providing high quality care to people living with progressive, life-limiting illnesses in South Devon, as well as supporting their families and carers. Rowcroft is heavily dependent on the support of the local community which provides the majority of the funds needed to take care further.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience of establishing and managing volunteer schemes to join Rowcroft Hospice’s Community Fundraising team at an exciting stage in the team’s development. This role will be integral to increasing income for the hospice in the following ways:

  1. by establishing a volunteer ambassador scheme consisting of trained volunteers able to represent the hospice and speak knowledgeably to a variety of audiences and play an active role in recruiting new regular givers and lottery players
  2. by developing volunteer supporter groups to undertake fundraising on Rowcroft’s behalf
  3. by providing support to Rowcroft’s existing fundraising supporter groups; the Friends of Rowcroft
  4. by recruiting a network of fundraising volunteers able to support the hospice on an ad-hoc basis at local community events 

Key to the success of the role will be motivating and enthusing new volunteers, and ensuring they are well-informed and appreciated. A key task will be to increase the number of supporter groups in the Rowcroft area who will be specifically asked to raise money to support Rowcroft’s work. 

Ideally you will have experience of managing volunteers, delivering training or education programmes, you will be diplomatic with excellent communication skills and the ability to talk to people from all levels of society.

We are looking for a new addition to our team, somebody who has the skill to help others identify issues which hold them back and find creative ways to overcome these.  With a base of operation to be agreed (Torbay,Plymouth or Launceston) you will cover areas across Devon and Cornwall.  The people you work with will be referred by Jobcentre Plus, aged 16+ and face multiple barriers due to background, disability or disadvantage, and include issues of debt, drug and alcohol misuse, family intervention, etc.  You will generally work on a 1:1 basis but may also develop group based activities and training, to enable people to make a positive step forwards

Ideally you will have a level 4 qualification in Information, Advice and Guidance (or be willing to obtain this); most importantly you will be able to demonstrate empathy, patience and have excellent listening and communication skills.   You will have a proven track record in enabling people to move forwards and a knowledge of the provision available in one of the key areas.  It would also be beneficial to hold a teacher/training qualification although not essential.
