Volunteer Managers Forum Gets To The Heart Of Issues More Often
Volunteer leaders looking after big-hearted workers in Torbay who give their time for free, are to get together more often to thrash out important issues that affect the voluntary sector.
The new Volunteer Managers/Coordinators Forum, initiated by Community and Voluntary Action Torbay, the Bay’s support organisation for the not-for-profit sector, is now meeting monthly instead of quarterly to complete even more tasks.
Further discussion took place at the April meeting around the Torbay Volunteer Awards Ceremony scheduled to take place in September. The arrangements are shaping up nicely with the judging panel having now all been identified and contacted. Some really good discussion took place around general volunteering issues and how CVA Torbay can contribute to making life a little easier for our member groups (watch this space) Our next meeting is once again to take place at the popular venue of Paignton Zoo at 9.30 am on May 15th 2012. We welcome new members so please get in touch today!
Co-ordinator of the forum, CVA’s Eloise Elson, said:” We have had good attendance and discuss issues from shared experiences to shaping the future of the sector. What we have found is that we need to meet more often rather than have such a long time in between getting together, so we can get more done.”
More organisations would be welcome, particularly smaller groups such as those attached to doctors’ surgeries, sports clubs or any community group. They need to be a member of CVA Torbay to join and Eloise has more details on 01803 212638 or eloise@cvatorbay.org.uk , or www.torcom.org.uk/content/membership

Do you manage, support or supervise volunteers? Would you find it useful chatting with others in a similar role in order to share ideas and gather alternative methods of working with volunteers? If you have answered yes to either of the questions then the following information might be right up your street.
CVA Torbay currently has registered, in the region of 400 local organisations many of which use volunteers in their everyday work and all of whom are eligible to access support and guidance along with other numerous services.
After a long absence we are pleased to announce the reinstatement of our most recent service the ‘Volunteer Mangers Forum’.
We plan to run the forum quarterly and it is aimed at those of you who feel you might benefit from a good old chat with others in a similar role. Initially we expect the forum to run quite informally with the idea being that you will mould it to the groups own needs and requirements. Suggestions have already been made with regards to occasional visiting speakers & rotational venues amongst other exciting ideas about how it might move forward and prove to be a credible benefit for those who work in a supervisory role with volunteers. Our 1st get together is being scheduled for and will be held in the newly refurbished training rooms here at CVA Torbay. So why not take this opportunity to join us on 14th June at 11-12.30pm, network with some like minded colleagues, view the new facilities and share some good practise.
If you would like to become part of shaping this forum for the future please contact Eloise Elson on 01803 212638 or eloise@cvatorbay.org.uk
