Previously known as Carers-One-to-One-Link (COOL), was founded by a generous mental-health carer in 1999 who funded a salary for one worker. This enabled carers, relations and friends of people with mental health problems to get in touch by phone to discuss any hopes or concerns they may have. The resulting support groups that formed still meet regularly in South Hams in Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, South Brent and Torbay. This generous benefactor purchased 17 Morgan Avenue in Torquay in 2005, now known as Cool House where people can meet new friends and share their experiences of mental illness and recovery. The Cool House is a resource which enables people to find out about self help, health services and their own capacity for change and recovery.
Cool Recovery offers a range of interests and activities throughout South Devon from arts, crafts and music to cooking, counselling, massage, homeopathy, City and Guilds Training, personal development, volunteering opportunities and friendship. Carers, both young and old, have their own special times and space where they can be supported by dedicated staff.
People react warmly to the Cool House and its relaxing, homely yet challenging environment while providing a space for people to meet others who understand from personal experience.
Cool Recovery is unique in its family approach to recovery and all are welcome- including well-behaved dogs.
