Contact a Family - for families with disabled children: information on rare syndromes and disorders - Every day over 75 children in the UK are born or diagnosed with a serious disability or rare syndrome and the vast majority of them are cared for at home. Contact a Family is the only UK charity providing support and advice to parents whatever the medical condition of their child. We have also amassed information on over 1,000 rare syndromes and rare disorders and can often put families in touch with each other. We enable parents to get in contact with other families through a family linking service, both on a local and national basis. We offer a telephone helpline with access to interpreters for families. We also have a number of local, regional and national offices plus volunteer family workers around the UK. We also provide information to professionals and developmental advice to support groups. We work to influence services and have campaigns that aim to improve the quality of life for families with disabled children. We have a wide range of publications for parents and professional including 'The Contact a Family Directory' - Specific conditions, Rare Disorders and UK Family Support Groups.
