Zurich has launched an insurance scheme to give local charities and community groups easily accessible cover.
The policy enables groups of volunteers and smaller community organisations to purchase public liability cover for a wide range of activities with a limit of up to £10M.
The 'Big Society' is based on the need to empower community groups and individuals to affect action in their local areas, reduce reliance on the State and remove the red tape burdening many existing groups and volunteers. But Paul Emery, Head of Charities & Social Organisations at Zurich believes “a lack of accessibility and affordability means that many community and voluntary groups are uninsured, so many important community projects are hindered or don’t even get off the ground."
“Providing affordable insurance is just one of the ways Zurich support the sector. We are engaging with Government to support the development of policy in this important area whilst continuing to work with the sector and local authorities to develop innovative insurance and risk solutions to remove complexity and to support volunteering.”
Kevin Curley, Chief Executive at NAVCA says: “This is a brilliant new scheme which will meet an urgent need in the communities sector. By supporting community groups with the risks they face we can help them to deliver the ‘Big Society’ ”.
Developed in collaboration with NAVCA and delivered through Tennyson Insurance the solution also gives community groups free access to a suite of on-line resources such as health and safety documentation and guidance to help select the cover that is right for them.
